Tiyatro Berlin

Theatre education.

Tiyatro Berlin treats theatre education as an extension of its artistic practice. In the courses, the collective shares the methods it develops in rehearsal and its thinking on dramaturgy and play analysis, and tests them together with adults with and without stage experience.

The weekly acting course runs across a whole season, with work on voice, body, breath, improvisation and text closely tied to readings in theatre history and dramaturgy. The Reading Theatre workshop brings approaches to directing, theatre theory and play analysis together with performances seen as a group.

Through the courses, a community forms that knows theatre from the inside and looks at the stage with a critical eye. For the collective, the courses belong to the same space of thought as the productions.

Reading Theatre · A workshop in directing, theory and spectatorship.

What grips us in a performance, how a text turns into something else on stage, which decisions a production is built from: the workshop asks these questions together, for anyone who wants to see theatre from both the auditorium and backstage. Over eleven sessions it covers approaches to directing and theories of theatre, reads play texts line by line, and goes to see performances together to discuss them afterwards.

The aim is a sharper eye as a spectator: an audience that can read what it sees, notices how a performance is built and can speak about it. No prior knowledge is needed; the workshop is open to anyone curious about directing, writing or criticism, and just as much to those who simply want to watch theatre more closely.
